Giving Your Brand That Competitive Edge!
When we first start a business, we base it off what we already know; we need to stock the shelves, have a point of sale, get a logo etc. But with all of this and the rush to get the doors open, we sometimes forget why we started in the first place. Often the desire to create a successful business overrides the desire to take risks and create something that is different.
Within the last few years, we have all come to know the battle between new ride share company UBER and the traditional Taxi services. UBER is a great example of creating a brand based on a tried and true service and adding a new spin to it. The concept of taking someone from point A to point B is the same as what is already on offer but the way in which they offer it is completely new and works on creating a more pleasent experience. UBER have created a brand that speaks to the current generation and enhances the user experience. They have played their own game in an already competitive market and in my opinion have come out on top.
These days, it's next to impossible to create a business with no competition. So instead of fighting on the same plane, why not give yourself the advantage?
Here's 3 ways you can give your brand that competitive edge.
1. Research the market that you are entering. Find the common traits, find what works and more importantly what does not. HOWEVER, instead of trying to do it better (which never ends well), try to do it differently.
2. Disrupt the industry that you are entering. Face the fact now that not everyone will like your business, it's never going to happen. UBER created something that was controversial, it split opinion but it got people talking. You want to evoke a response from people and that only comes from doing something different.
3. Introduce something new to the industry. Reinvent the way it is done. This could be changing the way you serve, the way you advertise or what you offer. This may take a bit of trial and error but when you hit the right note it is all worth while.
Are you in a highly competitive industry? Try implementing at least one of the tips above and let me know your experience with it!
