What Kind Of Brand Are You?

When creating our brand, we need to begin by thinking of what kind of brand we want to become. This can affect how we present and market our business as a whole so it’s important to get it right from the start. So let’s go over the three brand types and how they can change the dynamic of our business.

1. Personal Brand

A personal brand revolves around you, your cause, your values and your personality. This will mean being the face of your brand, being on camera, in photographs and talking at events. A personal brand:

  • Focuses around your personality and your story
  • Is about connecting with your audience on a personal level

Customers of a personal brand often buy their service or product because they align with what they stand for. This can be a powerful way of building a loyal following.

eg. Michael Jordan

2. Practical Brand

A practical brand solves a practical need or problem for a particular market. A practical brand:

  • Focuses around the solution you provide rather than the method
  • Addresses a need more than a want

Customers of a practical brand buy because they need the product or service. Often this comes down to who they think can provide the most effective product or service for the price.

eg. Pest control, accountants

3. Brand Name

A brand name is all about the identity and the experience. A brand name:

  • Is driven by creating something desirable
  • Makes the particular customer feel special
  • Has a big focus on the visual aspects of the brand

Customers of a brand name often buy because they believe it is the best. They want the satisfaction that comes with owning that particular product and are often loyal to the brand name.

eg. Nike, Mercedes

So what kind of brand are you?
