What Do You Mean By 'Marketing'?
A common question I get asked is “do you do marketing?” My answer to this question is not as straightforward as some may think. My response is usually “what are you looking to achieve? Sell more products? Drive more social media followers? Increase engagement on your website? Attract your ideal client?” The truth is in today's day and age, the term ‘marketing' actually covers a number of speciality fields.
So to answer the question yes, I do marketing but my form of marketing comes in the form of creating a strategy and designing a visual identity that is designed to communicate with your ideal client.
Other forms of 'marketing' are:
- PR
- Social Media
- Website
- SEO/Google and Facebook Ads
All of these areas require a speciality knowledge and are all designed to do different things. Who your market is, where they shop and where they visit determines where and how you market.
So before you ask or go looking for someone who does marketing, think about WHY you need marketing. This will lead you in the direction of the right marketing person for you.
